Editorial Policy
How the Trust sources, reviews, publishes and corrects. We publish this because a record you cannot check is not a record.
Sourcing
- Every figure carries a citation to a primary document — the census, the gazette, the county plan, an audit report. Never to a website that quotes one.
- Documents are archived with a checksum and a retrieval date. Government sites reorganise, and a dead link must not be allowed to quietly become an unsupported claim.
- Oral accounts are attributed to the person who gave them, with an accession number pointing to the recording.
Disagreement
Where accounts conflict — and on origins they routinely do — we publish all of them, attributed, and say plainly that the question is not settled. We do not average competing traditions into a single tidy story. The disagreements are part of the history.
Elder review
Nothing about a clan, a lineage or a ceremony is published before an elder of that clan has read it. Entries sit visibly in draft until they do.
What we will not publish
- Material a family has asked us not to publish, whatever its historical interest.
- Initiation content the presiding elders have said is not for publication.
- Claims about neighbouring communities that we would not accept if made about ours.
- Anything about a named living person that they have not agreed to.
Corrections
Every correction is logged publicly with the date and the reason. We do not quietly edit. If something here about your clan, your family or your ward is wrong, telling us is not an embarrassment to the record — it is the record working.
Independence
The Trust is non-partisan and does not support or oppose any candidate or party. No candidate, party or campaign has any say over what appears on this site, and none has been given advance sight of anything published here.
