Nominate an Elder
Do you know someone who should be recorded before we lose them? That is the most useful thing you can tell this Trust.
Who we are looking for
- Anyone who can give the origin account of their clan in their own words
- Anyone who was initiated before independence, or who remembers those who were
- Anyone who speaks Olutachoni as it was spoken, with words the young no longer use
- Anyone whose family carries testimony from Chetambe
- Midwives, herbalists, singers, blacksmiths, storytellers — anyone holding knowledge that was never written
They do not need to be famous. They need to be old, and willing.
What happens next
- You tell us who. Their name, their village, their clan if you know it, and how to reach the family.
- We approach the family first. Never the elder cold, and never without the family’s agreement.
- We come to them. They do not travel. We bring the camera, the consent form, and the time it takes — usually a morning, sometimes several visits.
- They keep a copy. The recording, the transcript and the consent form. Always.
- It receives an accession number and enters the archive permanently, under terms the family agreed.
What it costs them
Nothing. And nothing is asked of them afterwards — no membership, no contribution, no obligation of any kind.
Tell us
Use the register form and put their name in the last field, or call the Trust. If you would rather bring them to us at a gathering, the calendar lists the recording sessions.
